Why You Will Be Seeing Less Reviews From Me This Year
With the calendar change to 2014, comes a few changes for this website.
First, let me quell what you think may be happening. No, I haven’t fallen out of love with beer. No, I’m not tired of writing about beer. Those two things are the complete opposite reasons why you’ll be seeing less reviews from me — I’m more excited about beer currently than I have ever been, and I still get lots of satisfaction from writing about all the beer I get to try.
I’ve decided that 2014 will be the year that I start homebrewing. I’ve put a lot of thought into it and have already dedicated much time and research into getting things going — my biggest reason to start homebrewing is because I love the art behind making beer, and I think I can eventually make some pretty tasty beer. But I would also like to become a Certified Cicerone® (I became a Cicerone® Program Certified Beer Server last year) and I think digging deep into the brewing process by actually hands-on doing it would be a major advantage to being able to understand and pass the test material.
I’ve always sort of viewed myself as a hypocrite; it’s easy to review beers and say this or that, but when you review beers and have an advanced understanding as to why things taste the way they do, I think that will only improve my palate and therefore my reviews. I’d rather be a doer than a commenter, in other words.
In addition to homebrewing, I hope to possibly start writing some beer editorials this year. I’ve done a few of these in the past and they’re always fun to write and see what other people think.
So, that’s why you might start to see a decrease in reviews. I try to keep a Monday-Wednesday-Friday-Saturday schedule, but don’t hold me to that. I know there are sites out there that feature three new reviews a day…but let me reiterate the purpose of this website: I originally started writing about beer because I wanted to keep track, for me, of what I had tried and what I thought. This isn’t a ticking project. It just so happened that folks started reading and became interested too, which is great. We’ve had many interesting conversations along the way and I look forward to many more. I haven’t yet decided if I’ll write about my homebrew adventures, but if I do, I’ll let you know. And if a few days slip without a fresh review, that’s probably what I’m tinkering with.
Cheers and thanks for reading!
