After These Messages, We’ll Be Right Back

You might have noticed that I didn’t post a beer review yesterday. Shame! After thirty-eight consecutive days with a beer review, I’m taking a little break. Don’t worry, it will only be for a week — beer reviews will return Sunday, August 11, and we’ve got some good bottles in store.

Pictured above you see this year’s class of beers I’ve sat aside for my birthday week. The photo is one short because I haven’t acquired the final bottle. I’m sure some of you will recognize the bottles even with the intentionally blurred picture but stay tuned for a week of what will hopefully be some tasty brews. I turn 31 on August 14 — last year, I celebrated in much the same way, reviewing several beers I’d been holding onto for a special occasion. Let’s take a trip down memory lane and recall last year’s lineup:

Unibroue Grand Réserve 17 Belgian Dark Ale, 89 points
Dogfish Head Olde School Barleywine, 89 points
Founders KBS (Kentucky Breakfast Stout), 100 points
Stone Imperial Russian Stout, 95 points
Mikkeller Beer Hop Breakfast, 93 points
Foothills Sexual Chocolate Imperial Stout, 94 points
Founders Curmudgeon’s Better Half Old Ale, 99 points

I’m not sure if this year’s selections will be better or worse, but out of those seven beers above, two of them went on to highlight my yearly top 25 list. So what I’m saying is some of the best beers of the year are hopefully coming up!

Following my birthday week reviews, I’ll be returning to my normal schedule of Monday-Wednesday-Friday-Saturday reviews. While I’d love to have a fresh review for you each day, there are only certain times of year I have the time to crank it out like that.

Cheers! See you next week.
